Smart Brewer International Bittering Units:

This is the Calculated Bittering Units measured by Smart Brewer. Unlike the the IBU entered by the user (IBU) the Calculated IBU is determined mathematically based on the type of hops, the form of hops (Pellet, Plug, or Leaf), the Alpha Acid Unit of each hop (AAU), the length each hop is boiled and total estimated Original Gravity of each recipe. This calculation is purely a ballpark figure of the "approximate" IBUs in a given recipe.

This is the calculated color of a beer based on the fermentables in a recipe.

Smart Brewer Calculated Original Gravity:

This is the "Calculated Original Gravity" measured by Smart Brewer. The Calculated OG is based on the fermentables of the recipe and the final size of the recipe independent of the Brewer's Original Gravity to the left. Each fermentable has a different potential gravity. Additionally, the "Calculated Original Gravity" is determined purely by math. The size of the final batch, the efficiency of a given brew system and the potential gravity per gallon for each fermentable (referred to as "potential" or ppg) all contribute to the Calculated Specific gravity.


Note: Smart Brewer grabs the potential from each fermentable in a recipe, calculates the weight of the fermentable compared to the total weight of all the fermentables, compares the size of the batch and factors in the efficiency to produce this number.

Smart Brewer Efficiency:

The Smart Brewer Efficiency estimates the needed efficiency to achieve the Original Gravity for a given recipe. Smart Brewer calculates a perfect brew (where all fermentables are converted to sugars) and compares the "Brewer's Actual OG" with "Perfect OG". The ratio of the two determines the "Smart Brewer Efficiency".

Description:

The high IBU's really come out in this IPA, excellent color, excellent aroma, not too much alcohol, not too little. This is not a light IPA, this has some bite!

Mash Instructions:

Mash all grains at 150 for 75 minutes.

Saccharification Rest:75 Minutes at 150 Degrees (F)

General Instructions:

Not sure on the final product. I used the standard primary for 10 days and the secondary for 21 days.

I've revised my rating on this beer, the Chinook left too much of an after taste. I suspect the co-humulone levels were too high leaving hop bitterness afterthe initial taste. I think over some time this should dissipate some though.

I just tried this beer last night, still needs some time in the bottle, But wow, great hop character!!!
